about this blog

This blog is all about trying out stuff. Its title "yattemita" is the Japanese term for "I tried" doing something, which is what I love to do. I've always liked making stuff by myself better than just buying it. And I thought it could be interesting to write about it.

Tsukuttemita: Creamy Carrot Soup

Next monday I'll have two wisdom teeth removed. I am a bit scared of that. But I will buy me lots of icecream to cool my mouth afterwards : )
And I was thinking about taking the easy way and just eating soups then.

So yesterday I made this delicious Carrot-Coconut milk-Soup (see below for the recipe):

I froze half of it, so I can eat it next week if I am unable to chew. Soups are great, because they're
easy to make and a good healthy snack when you don't have much time (just make a bit more, store and unfreeze when needed).

This one is really simple:

Cut 200 g of carrots  and one onion into small pieces and crush one half of a garlic clove.

Stew everything in a pot with approximately one tablespoon of oil. Then add 300 ml broth , 100 ml coconut milk and 50 ml orange juice and cook for 15 to 20 minutes (use the lid).
Finally purée the soup and season with salt, curry, nutmeg (not too much) and a tiny bit of cinamon.
For the decoration you can use parsley as I did or cress.

Thanks for reading~

Yattemita: Cook Vegan

I hadn't been at home for a while, so when I came back yesterdays evening
my fridge was almost empty.
Therefore, today's breakfast was oat flakes with rice milk and a cup of tea.
I noticed that I had a vegan breakfast and decided to just stay vegan for today,
because I anyway had eaten too much meat and stuff lately.

I wanted to use the spinach I still had in the freezer, so I made this for lunch:

I cooked some spaghetti and seasoned them only with olive oil, salt and pepper and a bit of the
thai-basil I am growing on my window board.

The spinach got a soy sauce and paprika treatment.
Finally I roasted some pumpkinseeds and added them (I LOVE roasted seeds! They're best when
you wait until a few of them start popping).

The result was very delicious!! I'm thinking about having a vegan day more often.

I haven't been posting here for a really long time.
It's a pitty I never can go on with something, even if I absolutely enjoy it.... U_U

From now on I will try to do better.
One post a week should be possible, right? Even for me.

An apple a day...

...keeps the doctor away. That's what I was thinking of when I decided to eat more apples...
But it soon starts to bore me if I eat the same again and again. So I experienced a bit with apples :)

I cut them in slices and roasted them with butter in a pan. Then just added some brown sugar,
cinnamon and a pinch of nutmeg.

Finally topped it on some curd and enjoyed !

My roommate Isabel who is a really good cooker and baker and I were making cookies as gifts for our friends and families this year.

The decorating was the funniest part! :) We just used dark chocolate, some almonds and sugar topping (coloured on some of the cookies).

We made simple stars...

What do you think?

I also made a special one for my boyfriend because he loves sailing:

yattemita: Camomile Face Steaming

Last week I tried some beauty stuff. I had heard about camomile tea used as face cosmetic,
so I remembered that camomile was indeed very good for the skin.

I just took a big bowl and filled it with about two litres of hot water combined with 7 camomile tea packs. Less would have done too, but I wanted it strong ;)

Then I sat down in front of the bowl and held my face over it making sure the steam would reach my face by putting a towel over the bowl and my head. I soon noticed it was still a bit too hot, so I waited a couple of minutes. Then again under the towel and so I stayed for 15 minutes, which was actually a great opportunity for some thinking.

When I finished and dried my face I was really curious about how it worked.
And it did work! My skin was very soft and felt fresh and the pores were cleaned. And I got rid of this annoying spot I had fought with for a while.

I loved the result! So I decided to do this once month from now on, for it is natural and also much cheaper than any special toner or face mask you can buy in the shops. And it's good for the throat and for breathing, too.

Try it! :)

Herbal Wrapping

Last week was my mums birthday and I bought her this great hand cream of L'Occitane (she loves its scent). Of course it needed a nice packaging. And of course I couldn't leave this to the shops staff but made it myself.

I know its not the best and also not the most creative wrapping, but I love the wrapping paper.
Unfortunately I didn't have the time to buy some nice ribbon to make a cute bow, but next time I definately will!

As I said, I really like the paper. There are pics of herbs on it (well, cartoon drawings actually) and a brief discription of each, which tells you how to use it and what it fits with well.
Very cute idea I think. What do you say??

I really enjoy wrapping gifts! What fun will it be to wrap all the Christmas givings!!
